Registration for the 2016 Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Summit is now open. This year’s WUI Summit will be held March 31st through April 2nd in Silver City, New Mexico at the Besse-Forward Global Resource Center on the Western New Mexico University Campus.
The Summit provides an opportunity for New Mexico’s local government leaders, fire and emergency responders, businesses, and community members to discuss statewide efforts to reduce the risk of wildfire and what each player’s role is in mitigating risk of forest fires in the wildland urban interface. The collaborative event is hosted by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, New Mexico State Land Office, New Mexico State Forestry, Forest Stewards Guild, Northern Arizona University- Southwest Fire Consortium, Grant County, and New Mexico Association of Counties.
Advance registration is $65.00. Onsite registration is $85.00. A limited number of scholarships are available for non-federally employed individuals who wish to attend the WUI Summit. Financial assistance is offered through the Northern Arizona University’s Southwest Fire Consortium. Many have agreed to honor a government per diem rate and participants should identify that they are attending the “WUI” Summit.
