The Nature Conservancy

The Nature Conservancy has been working in New Mexico for almost four decades. During this time, we permanently protected 1.5 million acres, secured voluntary land conservation easements on more than half a million acres, and improved land and water management on an additional 18 million acres.

Despite these successes, there is still much to do. Climate change, oil and gas development, agricultural conversion, poorly managed population growth and fire suppression threaten New Mexico’s lands and waters. Working with partners to protect the state’s prairies, desert grasslands, rivers and forests ensures a healthy, beautiful and resilient New Mexico for future generations.
